The Unified Earth Defense Force (UEDF) was the military arm of the Unified Earth Government in Mobile Suit Gundam Galactic.

It was established in the year 2034 by First Chancellor of the UEG, Andrew LeBlanc, shortly after the formation of the Unified Earth Government, and was widely regarded as the oldest military organization known to Humanity, having been in existence for more than 800 years.

Organization

The Unified Earth Defense Force was the military arm of the Unified Earth Government. The overall leadership of the Unified Earth Defense Force was reserved for Chancellor Francis Leblanc and Vice-Chancellor Elise Sloane. However, responsibility for the day-to-day activities of the Defense Force was typically deferred to the current Supreme Commander of the Military and the Joint Senior Council, both of whom worked together to serve as UEDF High Command. Each member of the Joint Senior Council served in a senior leadership role within the organizations that composed the Unified Earth Defense Force.

Under the jurisdiction of the Unified Earth Defense Force were:

Enlistment in the Unified Earth Defense Force was open to men and women of the UEG. Recruits were trained in various facilities found all throughout UEG territory. The most promising recruits were shipped off to the Luna Military Academy to be trained as officers and elite commandos for the UEDF Special Forces Brigade. The military superiority of the Unified Earth Defense Force largely remained unchallenged for centuries until the attempted coup d'etat by Jean Regendorf I led to the creation of the Human Federation.
